Olivia handled this situation by convincing Cyrus he had to speed up the nuptials, a plan he nearly rebelled against, wanting sell his fiance out instead.
But Cyrus then realized Michael is actually a pretty decent guy and went through with his third vow exchange before the hour ended.
Before doing so, however, Scandal viewers got a glimpse into Cyrus' first marriage. To a woman!
Her name was Janet, she was portrayed by Emily Bergl and we learned Cyrus popped the big question back in the day because he hoped a "traditional" marriage would allow him to run for Congress.
Alas, Janet left him after learning Cyrus was gay. (Although we would have stayed with Cyrus for his old school hair alone.)
In another flashback, we were forced to hold back tears upon seeing Cyrus get married to the late (great!) James Novak. And in this same flashback, we discovered that Fitz gave Olivia the gold ring she wears around all the time.
(Be warned, if you watch Scandal online: you'll need a box of tissues by your side as you view these scenes. Maybe two boxes.)
Elsewhere, thanks to some prompting from Olivia, Mellie came out in favor of gay marriage. She even offered to host Cyrus and Michael's wedding at the White House!
Did she do so as a political maneuver? Of course. But Fitz could still learn a lesson or two from his wife.
Finally, ex-Vice President Sally Langston spent most of the installment attempting to ruin Cyrus' life… as usual. Her main plan involved calling his wedding a "sham" on live TV.
So, how did Olivia prevent Sally from doing even more damage? By claiming that her late husband was one of Michael's clients, of course.
In other words, say it with us... Sally has been handled!
Kerry Washington's breakout role came in the Julia Stiles-driven film Save the Last Dance. She played Chenille, a teen mother who befriends Stiles' character.
One of Tony Goldwyn's first major roles came as Carl Bruner, the guy who killed Patrick Swayze in Ghost. But hey, if he hadn't killed his best friend, we wouldn't have gotten that pottery scene and Unchained Melody wouldn't mean anything.
NOEL!!!! Scott Foley's time on Felicity led to his marriage to Jennifer Garner (before she cheated on him with Michael Vartan. WHO CHEATS ON SCOTT FOLEY!?!? NO ONE, THAT'S WHO!)
Is he a bad guy? Is he a good guy? NO ONE CAN DECIDE! One thing we know is that Scott Foley as Jake Ballard adds a certain something-something to the Olivia Pope love drama.
On Scandal, Bellamy Young turned what started as a three episode guest appearance into a full-fledged character, Mellie Grant, the First Lady everyone loves and loves to hate.
Terrence Steadman was a central figure on Prison Break. Lincoln Burrows was framed for his murder. That sounds like a character right up Jeff Perry's alley.
These days, Jeff Perry plays Cyrus Beene, a gay Republican White House Chief of Staff convinced his man is the best man for the job because it puts him closer to power.
Guillermo Diaz played a character named Scarface in the Dave Chappelle comedy Half Baked. He later reprised the role for several episodes of Chappelle's Show.
As Abby Whelan, Darby Stanchfield plays one of the most polarizing Gladiators. Some people love her. Some people hate her. She'll go over the cliff for Olivia Pope no matter what.
David Rosen was supposed to be a guest role only, but fans reacted so well, and Shonda loved Joshua Malina so much, she decided to keep him around. For now.
Joe Morton showed up on Scandal as a mystery man called Command. It was later revealed that he is Olivia Pope's father, Rowan Pope. He's the baddest of the bad.
