It is well known that toys and cartoon characters marketed toward little girls have been criticized for portraying unrealistic expectations of beauty.
For instance, if Barbie were a real human, her proportions would prevent her from being able to walk upright. And Disney princesses are always drawn to have huge eyes, perfect hair, tiny bodies, and flawless makeup.
What if they didn't, though?
But illustrator Loryn Brantz is giving the world a glimpse of the Disney princesses without makeup! And like most people (and cartoons), they look great without makeup!
Frozen's Elsa, Aladdin's Jasmine and Tiana of The Princess and the Frog are three of eight princess to get their faces washed clean of excess makeup.
Elsa is drawn without her signature purple eye shadow and pink lipstick. Jasmine has been wiped of her intense black eyeliner. And Tiana's face is flawless without her dark purple eye shadow and thick eyeliner.
Brantz, who is a two-time Emmy winner, spoke about her new illustrations. "Any artwork that challenges the way the media portrays beauty standards to young girls is worth doing," she told E! News.
Her Buzzfeed feature offers viewers more head shots of makeup-less princesses, including Belle, Pocahontas, and other Disney royal ladies.
This isn't the first time Disney characters have been redrawn to promote social and cultural awareness.
