Uggie, the sweet Jack Russell dog who rose to stardom in the 2011 Oscar-winning film The Artist, has died.
After a battle with a prostate illness, the 13-year-old pup was put to sleep on Friday, August 7.
Uggie was a beloved pet to animal trainer Oscar Von Muller. He won the Palm Dog Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival for his stunt work in The Artist.
He also become the first dog to have his paw prints imprinted on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
Von Muller said that the decision to have his beloved pet euthanized was a tough decision. But Uggie was suffering from the prostate tumor.
Sarah Clifford, who assisted in training Uggie for The Artist, said, "I will forever hold him dearly in my heart and never forget his infinite love for chicken and hotdogs."
At the 2012 Oscars, Uggie rocked a 18 carat gold and satin bow tie. But shortly after, he was retired from show biz after suffering a mysterious neurological condition.
"It comes and goes," Von Muller said at the time. "It is a shame this has happened when he is getting the biggest success of his career, but we feel the best thing to do is to retire him after the Oscars."
Directory Michel Hazanavicius mentioned his fondness for Uggie. He said The Artist would "never have been the same movie without the dog."
Uggie was also known for his role in Reese Witherspoon's flick Water for Elephants.
