A new audio recording of Donald Sterling has hit the Internet.
In this tape, however, Sterling is not making racist comments. Instead, he's trying to state the case that he isn't actually a racist.
"You think I'm a racist?" Sterling asks a long-time friend in a recorded phone conversation. "You think I have anything in the world but love for everybody? You don't think that! You know I'm not a racist!"
The identity of the man on the other line is unknown, but Radar insists the tape is real. It has not revealed who leaked it to the press.
Sterling was caught telling girlfriend V. Stiviano a few weeks ago that it "bothers" him "a lot" that she wants to "broadcast that you're associating with black people."
The Los Angeles Clippers owner has since been banned from the league for life and owners will soon vote on whether or not he must sell the team.
As many expect, however, it sounds like Sterling will take this battle to court.
"You can't force someone to sell property in America," he says in this latest recording.
Sterling also insists he can't be racist because he grew up in east Los Angeles.
"I was the president of the high school there," he says. "And I'm a Jew! And 50% of the people there were black and 40% were hispanic... So, I mean, people must have a good feeling for me."
It's true. No one elected to any office has ever been racist.
Over the past several days, Sterling has cancelled planned interviews with Anderson Cooper and Barbara Walters. This is the first time we've heard him speak at length about the racist charges.
"How could you think I'm a racist knowing me all these years?" he asks his friend. "How can you be in this business and be a racist? Do you think I tell the coach to get white players? Or to get the best player he can get?"
