Ryan Gosling is promoting his directorial debut, Lost River, at the Cannes Film Festival this week, with the conspicuously absence of one big supporter:
His girlfriend of three years, Eva Mendes ... who co-stars in the film.
Instead, Gosling took to the red carpet instead with Mad Men's Christina Hendricks, who also appears in the actor's movie, which is set in an urban wasteland.
Critical response to the film was negative, with Time's Richard Corliss calling it the most enthusiastically derided entry so far at this year's festival.
That's secondary in celebrity gossip circles to the lack of Mendes, 40, who's been keeping a low profile, and hasn't been seen with Ryan, 33, this year.
Heck, Macaulay Culkin and Ryan Gosling have been linked more often.
In February, Mendes appeared to shoot down breakup rumors, joking to Ellen that her Valentine's Day plans involved "watching The Notebook or something."
And just this month, Gosling was photographed at the premiere of White Shadows wearing a necklace reading "Hugo," the name of Mendes's beloved dog.
The couple, who struck up a romance on the set of 2012's The Place Beyond the Pines, have been tight-lipped about their relationship from the start.
