Andy Fraser, a bass player who co-wrote the famous rock anthem "All Right Now" for the band Free, died Monday in Temecula, Calif., at the age of 62.
The musician was said to be discovered in his car by his gardener Monday, although no official cause of death has been released as of this posting.
Fraser has been living with HIV since the 1990s, according to multiple media reports, and is survived by two daughters, Hannah and Jasmine Fraser.
The London-born Fraser rocked from a very young age. joined John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, a "training ground" for British musicians, at just 15.
He saw success quickly, becoming one of the founding members of Free only one year later. Free's third album, Fire and Water, took him to the big time.
The title track and the song that would immortalize the band for decades, "All Right Now," which Fraser co-wrote and played bass on, were bona fide hits.
Free split in 1972, but he and singer Paul Rodgers (of Bad Company fame) went on to reboot the group in 1994 to play "All Right Now" at Woodstock.
In recent years, Fraser took on a strong role in politics and humanitarian causes, while mentoring up and coming artists like guitar prodigy Tobi Earnshaw.
Among other organizations he was actively involved with, Fraser was key member in the Rock Against Trafficking charity. President Gary Miller said:
"My dear friend did so much for the organisation, and for me personally. He was my little big brother and one of the greatest bass players and songwriters of all time."
