Millionaire real estate heir Robert Durst, the subject of HBO's documentary The Jinx, was arrested over the weekend in New Orleans for a 2000 killing.
Making matters even more bizarre was the broadcast of Durst's restroom ramblings, and alleged confession, that were picked up on his live microphone.
"What the hell did I do?" Durst says at the end of the documentary, which chronicles the bizarre series of events in his life. "Killed them all, of course."
His lawyer says not to read into that comment. Too late.
At one point, Durst, who amassed a fortune from his family's real estate empire, admitted to shooting and dismembering his neighbor, but was acquitted.
He was suspected in his first wife's disappearance, but no one could prove it. Just before his friend was going to speak to investigators, she was killed.
This saga goes back decads. His wife, Kathie McCormack, was on her way to medical school in New York when she vanished without a trace in 1982.
"I put her on the train in Westchester to go into the city that evening. That was the last time I ever saw her," Durst testified in a separate case year later.
McCormack had told relatives and friends that her husband had abused her. Despite a cloud of suspicion over the years, Durst has never been arrested.
Crime writer Susan Berman, a longtime friend of Durst's, became involved In 2000, when investigators reopened the 1982 disappearance of McCormack.
Days before investigators were to fly out to talk with her about what she may have known about Durst, she was shot execution style in her living room.
In 2001, almost two decades after his wife's disappearance and a year after Berman's murder, Durst moved and went into seclusion in Galveston, Texas.
He got into a fight with his neighbor, Morris Black, and later admitted to shooting and killing him, then dismembering the body in a panicked state.
He was acquitted in that case, but this weekend, Durst was arrested for the killing of Burman, as "a result of investigative leads and additional evidence."
He sits in a New Orleans jail, without bond, and is awaiting an extradition hearing Monday. Meanwhile, The Jinx aired in six episodes, ending Sunday.
Immediately after the finale's last shot, Durst goes into the bathroom, apparently not realizing his mic was still on. "There it is. You're caught," he said.
He then rambles a series of seemingly unrelated sentences before saying, "He was right. I was wrong. What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course."
Brandy Norwood hit a car in front of her by failing to brake in time, killing the driver in front of her. Brandy took full responsibility for the accident, but was never charged.
Robert Blake was arrested and tried for killing his wife, Bonnie Lee Bakley. He was found innocent, but was helpd liable for her death in a civil suit.
So SNOOP wasn't the one who pulled the trigger, but his bodyguard was. He was still arrested in the death of a rival gang member and represented by Johnnie Cochran.
Rebecca Gayheart struck and killed a boy in a crosswalk when she didn't want to stop and wait behind the line of cars who'd stopped to let the boy cross the street.
