With the considerable backlash surrounding the Fifty Shades of Grey movie casting, should producers be concerned that fans will lose passion for the project?
To say that readers weren't wowed en masse by Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey would be putting it mildly.
THG polling suggests fewer than 30 percent of respondents are excited about the two actors chosen for the adaptation of EL James' erotic novel.
It's not just indifference, either. Many are full-on livid over it.
Tens of thousands have even gone so far as to petition for a new Christian and Ana, specifically Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel in the sexy lead roles.
While that's never going to happen, it's sure to keep some fans dreaming of what might have been, which is not helping build support for the actual leads.
There's also another, less dramatic scenario that could play out.
There's at least a possibility that some fans will be so bitter over the Fifty Shades of Grey casting that they stay home, rather than flock to theaters.
Should producers be worried? Or is this just a product of fan support for the project that will fade once they actually see the duo on screen together?
