Veteran character actor Ed Lauter has died at the age of 74.
Lauter's publicist, Edward Lozzi, says he died late Wednesday of mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer most commonly caused by asbestos exposure.
The thespian's long, angular face and stern bearing made him recognizable in scores of movies and TV shows in a career that spanned five decades.
