Immersive TV schedule aside, there are some theories as to why Charlie Hunnam actually backed out of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie last weekend.
The actor will wrap production on Sons of Anarchy Season 6 before the movie shoot begins in November. Which he likely knew was the case all along.
So what's the real reason the 33-year-old rising star bailed?
According to THR sources, it was a lack of creative control.
Hunnam, who has penned a screenplay for Brad Pitt's Plan B and Summit Entertainment, made some script revisions to Fifty Shades of Grey.
Of his own initiative. Many of them were well received, too.
Feeding off the positive feedback, Charlie felt compelled to offer more revisions. "That's Charlie, that's who he is," a source tells the site. "He's particular."
But this led to tension with director Sam Taylor-Johnson.
The British actor began to feel stymied, as well as worried that he could be typecast - handcuffed (so to speak) by what is undoubtedly a risky role.
There's also the issue of money. Universal and Focus Features offered him a reported $125,000 to play the sadomasochistic businessman Christian Grey.
It's a small sum, one might even say paltry, for a project like this.
Consider that Robert Pattinson earned a reported $2 million for the very first Twilight film, before which he was by no means a household name.
Pattinson's payday grew along with the franchise, reportedly rising to $12,500,000 plus 7.5 percent of the gross revenue from Breaking Dawn.
Nevertheless, the small sum offered Hunnam at the onset for a movie all but guaranteed to rake it in at the box office may have been a turnoff, too.
The PTB may want to think of bumping it up for Jamie Dornan, Christian Cooke, Theo James, Alexander Skarsgard or whomever else is cast.
