Reports are going around that in a recent lawsuit deposition, Tom Cruise likened his A-list movie star filming schedule to being a soldier in Afghanistan.
A more thorough review of the exchange reveals that's not really the case.
First and foremost, it was his attorney, not Cruise himself, who first made the comparison between the two. In response, the opposing lawyer asked:
"Your counsel equated your absence from [Suri Cruise] for extended periods of time as being analogous to someone fighting in Afghanistan. Are you aware of that?"
Tom's lawyer objected, then said he could answer. He said, "I didn't hear Afghanistan, but that's what it feels like, and certainly on this last movie, it was brutal."
When he says "it was brutal," Cruise appears to laugh a bit.
But, then the lawyer asks him point blank about the quote: "Do you believe the situations [being in a movie and fighting a war in Afghanistan] are the same?"
An indignant Cruise then responds back, "Oh come on."
Short story: He clearly doesn't think they're similar.
This review of the deposition reveals that the quote was taken out of context, even if Cruise's lawyer did make that dubious claim in the first place.
Cruise is suing celebrity gossip magazine In Touch for $50 million for claiming he abandoned Suri during his divorce from Katie Holmes in 2012.
Tom says he's always been a key part of her life.
Among other interesting revelations to emerge from this deposition? Tom claiming Katie Holmes and the paparazzi conspired to paint him in a negative light.
