Editor's Note: The American Idol auditions last night in Omaha, Nebraska were far more impressive than our lame attempt at a punny headline above.
Indeed, the Fox competition finished its pre-Hollywood Week run of evaluations on a relatively strong note, as Keith Urban cracked us up by comparing one contestant to Ben Affleck ("Your for directing Argo was phenomenal") and Ryan Seacrest got tackled by an overenthusiastic hugger.
Fun times!
The auditions themselves produced some potential as well. Might one of the following five take home the grand prize in May?
Casey McQuillen went all Demi Lovato on us and sang "Skyscraper." She also looked just liike Jayma Mays and kept things both simple and entertaining.
CJ Jones sang a version of "Stand By Me" and shocked us with his mature, rich voice. He wasn't even bothered by Harry's stomping and grooving along with the track.
Tyler Marshall was seriously excited at merely bing in the room. And that enthusiasm carried over to the judges when they gave him a Golden Ticket for his take on "Proud Mary."
Paula Hunt (above) was inspiring and talented. She made like Etta James on "All I Could Do Was Cry" and said she lost her voice at one point to lost her voice to multiple sclerosis. She's also a member of the U.S. Air Force's Heartland of America Band.
Tessa Kate shocked us on "Folsom Prison Blues." But she managed to make this Johnny Cash hit her own, picking up the pace and totally jamming out on the second verse.
