Former Bachelorette star Emily Maynard is speaking out about current leading lady Andi Dorfman and how Eric Hill left the ABC show this week.
Because Hill died weeks after he departed, his somewhat contentious final exchange with Andi - while far from bitter - took on a heightened meaning.
The Bachelorette spoilers prepared us for his departure, and we knew of his tragic death, but we weren't expecting the way he exited the show.
Saying he believed Andi wasn't being fully open with him and accusing her of wearing a poker face, she suggested he leave and Eric Hill obliged.
Andi then told the rest of the guys that they can follow him out the door right now if they think the same, insisting she was being nothing but real.
Host Chris Harrison defended them, saying that Eric was just being honest, and on a different day, a less exhausted Andi might not have been as upset.
Emily Maynard tells Parade that she feels similarly about the situation:
"All I can say is my heart absolutely breaks for his family and I just hope they can use the platform that this show gave Eric to really spotlight his life."
"The 'fame' from this show fades away so quickly, but his heart for others and kind spirit will always be remembered by everyone who knew him."
"And because I've been The Bachelorette, I want to take every opportunity I can to defend Andi because no one can prepare you for the judgment and scrutiny."
"Let me be the first to say that the first few weeks of this show are not only physically exhausting, but also mentally draining."
"They don't show you the hours of interviews she has to do at the end of these long night and the alarm clock that goes off the next morning before the sun even rises."
"I'm sure she has a lot of regrets and wishes she could redo that conversation, so let's all take that as a reminder to be kind to each other," she writes.
