More information has sadly come to light regarding the death of Elizabeth Pena.
The actress - best known for roles on Modern Family, Rush Hour and La Bamba - died at the relatively young age of 55 on October 14.
According to the just-released Los Angeles County Coroner report, she passed away from complications related to alcohol abuse.
The document lists cirrhosis of the liver due to alcohol as a cause of death, as well as cardiopulmonary arrest, cardiogenic shock and acute gastrointestinal bleeding.
Following her passing, Pena's manager, Gina Rugolo, said the New Jersey-born star died of natural causes after a brief illness.
"She was our star. She was my star. We celebrated her triumphs. We sweated through her struggles," nephew Mario-Francisco Robles wrote in an October 15 tribute to his aunt on Latino Review.
It continued:
"Tonight, my family is heartbroken. There's now a void that will never be filled. All we can do now is remember your sharp sense of humor, your endless hunger for life, and your never ending pursuit of happiness."
Pena leaves behind a husband, Hans Rolla, and two children. May she rest in peace.
