A shooting at the Canadian parliament building in Ottawa has claimed at least one life, police report.
Ottawa police confirmed that gunmen opened fire at war monument then ran for the Parliament building, sending bystanders and members of parliament running for safety.
The victim who died has yet to be publicly identified, but it's been reported that he was a soldier standing guard at the monument.
"Condolences to the soldier killed and prayers to the Parliamentary guard wounded," read a tweet from military spokesman Jason Kenney. "Canada will not be terrorized or intimidated."
At least three other victims have been admitted to nearby hospitals. Doctors have reported that two of the victims are currently in stable condition.
One of the gunman has been killed, and police are reportedly on the hunt for at least two other shooters.
This is the first such incident to take place in Canada in recent history.
The United States, however, has been plagued by shootings in public areas, and police believe the shooters in this case may have been inspired by the recent rash of gun violence in the US.
