Glee creator Ryan Murphy has offered up new details on how the series will deal with the loss of Cory Monteith, who died of a drug overdose in July.
Finn will pass away, but despite Murphy's previous statements that Glee will "deal directly" with the issues that led to the actor's death, he will not OD.
"There were a lot of things that we had to decide ... how are we going to deal with his death?" Murphy said, and his answer may surprise Glee fans.
Finn will die, but how? We may never know: "Basically, what we're doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died."
"The idea being, how somebody died is interesting and maybe morbid, but we will say very early on, 'This episode is about a celebration of that character's life.'"
"That might be weird for some people, but it felt exploitative to do it any other way."
The memorial for Finn (and, by extension, Cory Monteith) will take place on the third episode of Glee Season 5, which premieres on September 26.
It's been an emotional experience for all involved, to say the absolute least.
"The cast and crew have had solace in being together," Murphy said.
"There's been tears. It's been hard for a lot of people. I think it turned out to be a lovely tribute, and it's a very heartfelt look at how young people grieve."
