The small, intimate royal christening of Prince George was the big story, but what his mom Kate Middleton wore was, as always, a major subplot Wednesday.
For the occasion, the Duchess of Cambridge again chose Alexander McQueen.
In a cream-colored short two-piece with a cascading ruffle-placket, she wore an adaptation of a coat dress seen in Spring / Summer 2012 McQueen collections.
Kate Middleton seemed to have coordinated the color perfectly with the family.
Camilla and Pippa Middleton were also in pale colors, while Carole Middleton, godmother Zara Phillips, and Queen Elizabeth II wore varying shades of blue.
Kate Middleton style-watchers surmised that her fascinator as a creation of favored milliner Jane Corbett, though this particular point is in dispute.
The designer told VF that her only piece at the christening was Carole Middleton's "soft grey hat, straw trimmed with matching silk satin and vintage lace."
The Daily Mail's Rebecca English reports that the Duchess's hat is in fact a custom piece by Jane Taylor, and is reported to cost more than $1,200.
A rep from Jane Taylor confirmed that the "ivory and nude sinamay beret" was made just for the event with a delicate silk organza rose and classic veil trim.
Though it was made especially for today, it will be available online.
Kate's earrings are thought to be by another preferred designer of hers, Kiki McDonough, while her trusted L.K. Bennett nude Sledge pumps served as footwear.
