Apollo Theatre Collapses in London, at Least 80 Injuries Reported >>Hollywood

Part of the ceiling of London's Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue collapsed on Thursday evening, showering theatre-goers with plaster, wood, and dust.

"At first we thought it was part of [The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime]" says Martin Bostock. "Then I got hit on the head."

This story gives new meaning to the phrase "bringing down the house." 

As the ceiling fell in on the theatre, "complete chaos" erupted as the audience tried to get outside. More than 80 people were injured by the collapse, and several in attendance were trapped by debris.

So far, no fatalities have been reported.

Many of the injured were treated in nearby theatres which opened their doors to emergence medical personnel. A double-decker bus was also commandeered to take the more seriously injured to a local hospital.

The Apollo Theatre, which was built in 1901, has 775 seats. It is estimated that 700 of those seats were filled during the time of the collapse.
