If all Mariah Carey wants for Christmas is a pretty big scandal, the legendary singer now finds herself in one.
On December 15, Carey performed a concert for Angola President José Eduardo dos Santos, singing for two hours inside Luanda's Coqueiros Stadium at a gala for the Angolan Red Cross.
Dos Santos, who has served as the head of this nation for 34 years, has been accused of ordering the deaths of journalists and publicists who protest his reign.
"Mariah Carey can't seem to get enough dictator cash, reportedly more than $1 million this time," Human Rights Foundation president Thor Halvorssen said in a statement. "Just five years ago she performed for the family of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
"Now, she goes from private performances to public displays of support and credibility for one of Africa's chief human rights violators and most corrupt tyrants."
The 43-year-old posed with the president, his wife and daughter at the event, where she said she was "honored to share this show with the President of Angola."
And Carey isn't the only artist to come under fire for performing in front of controversial rulers.
In July, Jennifer Lopez apologized for a show she headlined in honor of Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.
