Count Kobe Bryant as someone who is looking forward to a fresh start in the new year.
The Lakers superstar, who has only played in six games this season after tearing his Achilles in April, suffered a fractured lateral tibial plateau Tuesday night and will miss at least six weeks of action.
"All I can do is do the work. And do everything I can to be back at the highest level," Bryant told ESPN.
Bryant will not undergo any surgery on the knee, simply giving it time to heal and rest.
The major injury takes place just weeks after Bryan signed a two-year, $48.5 million contract extension and just as the Lakers were hoping to turn around their season.
"That's too bad," Head Coach Mike D'Antoni said of his prized shooting guard. "You hate it for Kobe. He worked so hard to get back. But he'll be back. He'll be back in six weeks, and we'll deal with it and weather the storm until he gets back."
