After years of hiding her struggle, Elizabeth Vargas is opening up about her battle with addiction.
"I am an alcoholic," the ABC News reporter revealed on Good Morning America on Friday.
Elizabeth Vargas sought treatment in a rehab facility last fall and is now in Alcoholics Anonymous.
The 20/20 anchor spoke candidly about her long road to accepting the problem, saying, "It took me a long time to admit that to myself. It took me a long time to admit it to my family, but I am."
And although she had worked on numerous TV specials about drinking, it still took Elizabeth time to recognize her own issues with alcohol.
"I started thinking 'Well, you know, I'll only drink, you know, on weekends. I'll only drink, you know, two glasses of wine a night," she said.
"I won't drink on nights before I have to get up and do 'Good Morning America.' But those deals never work," the 51-year-old admitted.
Vargas also revealed that her husband Marc Cohn told her, "You have a problem. You're an alcoholic."
She went to say those words "made me really angry, really angry. But he was right."
