The founder of a children's ministry in eastern Alabama has agreed that a billboard featuring an Adolf Hitler quote was likely a bad idea.
The sign, posted near the Village Mall in Auburn, depicts five smiling children underneath a quote from the Nazi leader that reads:
"He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future."
The billboard was put up on Friday and immediately sparked a controversy across Facebook and Twitter, with Live Savers Ministries founder James Anderegg agreeing to cover it up yesterday.
"We are pulling the billboard and certainly never intended to cause confusion," Anderegg told The Ledger-Enquirer of Columbus, Georgia.
He added that, in hindsight, it may have been smarter to quote former President Herbert Hoover, who offered up a similar message when he said "children are our most valuable resource."
We'd have to say he's right about that.
"We are a children's organization and had honorable intentions and nothing less," Anderegg said.
Jesse James, meanwhile, is also in trouble this week because the new logo for his motorcycle company resembles an old Nazi insignia.
