Earlier this week, Walmart claimed in official federal court documents that Tracy Morgan is largely to blame for the horrific June accident that put him in the hospital and which killed good friend James McNair.
The company argues that the fatal incident was caused "in whole or in part" by Morgan and McNair's "failure to properly wear an appropriate available seatbelt restraint device."
Now, in response to that assertion, Morgan has released a new statement that can be boiled down to a single word:
SERIOUSLY?!?!?
"After I heard what Walmart said in court I felt I had to speak out," Morgan says. "I can't believe Walmart is blaming me for an accident that they caused. My friends and I were doing nothing wrong. I want to thank my fans for sticking with me during this difficult time. I love you all. I'm fighting hard every day to get back."
Back in June, Morgan and some friends were on their way back from a stand-up show when their tour bus was hit by a Walmart truck driver who reports indicate had been awake for 24 hours.
Morgan was hospitalized with numerous broken bones, and as recently as August, his attorney says the star was still "struggling."
Walmart, though, says Morgan's lack of seat belt wearing constitutes "unreasonable conduct," while a spokeswoman says the company continue to be "willing to work with Mr. Morgan and the other plaintiffs to resolve this matter."
