While Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine having sex on camera may a dream come true for some Maroon 5 fans, the folks over at The Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network see it as a nightmare.
Representatives from RAINN have released a lengthy statement in which they slam the new Maroon 5 Animals video (below) as "a dangerous depiction of a stalker's fantasy."
The offensive footage features Levine as a cleaver-wielding butcher's assistant who stalks a woman portrayed by Prinsloo.
As you can see here, scenes include a look at The Voice coach tucked away in a basement surrounded by animal carcasses, along with dozens of pictures he's acquired of his prey.
He's also seen outside Prinsloo's window, waiting for her to fall asleep... only to then break into her apartment and get into bed with the unsuspecting model.
"No one should ever confuse the criminal act of stalking with romance," wrote RAINN Vice President of Communications, Katherine Hull Fliflet. "The trivialization of these serious crimes, like stalking, should have no place in the entertainment industry."
The most graphic and troublesome scene takes place when Levine sleeps with Prinsloo as gallons of blood spill down from above.
The lyrics, meanwhile, only serve to emphasize this unusual and grotesque theme:
"Baby, I'm preying on you tonight/Hunt you down eat you alive / Just like animals…" and "Maybe you think that you can hide/I can smell your scent from miles/Just like animals."
To conclude its statement, RAINN told victims of stalking and/or assault that there are support outlets, writing:
"Survivors everywhere can get help 24/7 through the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1.800.656.HOPE and online.rainn.org."
