"It's so gorgeous, and I'm very lucky for many reasons, but I look at it every day and just think, 'Wow.' I don't even know what to say," Reed told People last night of her impressive engagement ring, adding in awe:
"Is that not the most beautiful thing you've ever seen in your whole life?"
Reed and Somerhalder started dating in early 2014 and got engaged in mid-January.
And while Reed is keeping the story behind the actor's proposal private ("You've got to keep some things to yourself and have a moment," he says), the Twilight Saga alum does embrace how she can share her happiness with followers and loved ones.
"Love is love, and people see it, and they feel it, and everyone's really attracted to that idea," she says.
"As much as we want to expose as much of that as we can, we also just really want to keep some things for us and our family. You don't have the opportunity to do that very much with what we do for a living, so we're going to do our best."
Nikki and Ian also may need to keep certain things to themselves because there aresome Nikki Reed haters out there.
These critics can't get over Somerhalder having split from Nina Dobrev, although Ian sent them a message in September, writing online at the time:
"You HATE NIKKI REED? Really? Do you know her? Hmmm, I'm not sure you do. Look on her Instagram feed or twitter and all you will see is a compassionate and beautiful human being."
