Britney Spears has been under a conservatorship for seven years plus, and it looks like the status quo may continue for the rest of her life.
This isn't a bad thing. There are just no plans to end the conservatorship, in the short or long term, and no one involved is complaining.
A quick refresher: Britney was in a bad place throughout 2007 and into 2008, when she was hospitalized under a psychiatric hold.
Her father, Jamie Spears, went to court to seek a conservatorship, giving him control over her financial, medical and legal decisions.
That sounds like an ominous power play, but by all accounts, Jamie saved her life in the short term, and she's thriving now thanks to him.
Jamie Spears and Britney's doctors stabilized her to the point where she scored a successful comeback album and Vegas residency.
Her yearly income is well into the eight figures, which would not have been possible had Jamie and his team not righted the ship.
More importantly, she maintains a robust personal life (bad breakups aside) that is her own and is by any standard a great parent.
As Britney sees it, she has "substantial day-to-day freedom" and is more than content to let her father help with her finances, etc.
Thus, Team Spears' plan is to continue the conservatorship indefinitely ... because it has gotten it done, and why fix what ain't broke?
