If you've ever listened to Eminem's music, you know the hip hop icon is no stranger to controversy.
Over the course of his 17-year career, the Detroit-based emcee has attacked minority groups, celebrities, politicians and rival rappers with equally violent fervor.
Just last week, Em released a blistering freestyle in which he slammed everyone from Donald Trump to Bill Cosby.
He even made come crude remarks about Caitlyn Jenner, but because it's Eminem, no one really batted an eye.
Now, however, Slim Shady may have finally gone too far in a guest verse on the new Dr. Dre album that's drawing serious criticism from women's rights groups and hip hop fans alike:
"Ain't no one safe from, non-believers there ain't none, even make the b-tches I rape c--," Eminem raps on the song.
The line is shocking even by the standards of a man whose music features frequent anti-gay slurs and threats of violence against women.
It's true that Eminem's ability to appall and offend helped him to make a name for himself in the early stages of his career, but a lot has changed since the late 90s.
Not only is a lot of distasteful content that may have been tolerated then deemed unacceptable now, but Em has sufficiently proven his talent and staying power to the point that he no longer needs to rely on crude shock value to stay relevant.
More importantly, the man has a college-aged daughter these days, so hopefully he'll find a way to leave the references to raping women and punching female artists in the past, just like he dropped the drug lyrics once he sobered up.
