A trio of high school basketball players in Cumberland, Maine made headlines for all the wrong reasons this week, Tweeting a photo of themselves making the Nazi salute.
The young ladies - unidentified because they are minors - also made numerous anti-Semetic references in Twitter posts, seemingly aimed at a Jewish teammate.
"So Jewish to have prac on Christmas Eve day," reads on Tweet on December 24, with another stating:
"If [name redacted] picked me up, she would've made me do sprints, then put me in a gas chamber."
Greely High School Principal Dan McKeone says the students have been disciplined, but he did not provide any further details.
In a letter sent home to parents of members of the basketball team, McKeone and Athletic Director David Shapiro wrote:
"These events, while disturbing, also provide us with an opportunity to teach our children about tolerance and respect...
