Man Dribbling Soccer Ball from Seattle to Brazil Killed on Freeway May 15th 2013, 14:16 A Seattle native named Richard Swanson was killed yesterday morning in Lincoln City, Oregon, not long after he started on an epic trek: The 42-year old graphic designer was trying to dribble a soccer ball from Washington to Brazil in time for the 2014 World Cup.   Law enforcement officials report that Swanson was struck around 10 a.m. by a pickup truck along U.S. Highway 101. He was declared dead at the hospital shortly afterward. Swanson had started breakwaybrazil.com and had engaged on the walk to promote One World Futbol Project, which donates durable blue soccer balls to people in developing countries.   Said Lisa Tarver, COO of that organization, in response to the sad news: "We are deeply saddened to learn about Richard's death. He was a very inspiring man who in a very short time walked his way into many lives. Our thoughts are with his family." According to his website, Swanson left Seattle on May 1 and planned to go through 11 countries before making it to Brazil. Friends are considering a foundation in Swanson's memory that will send his two sons to Sao Paolo for the World Cup, which will be held next summer.
