Marc Anthony is addressing his recent "God Bless America" performance at the MLB All-Star Game - and criticism that he's not American enough to perform it.
A month after Texas' Sebastien de la Cruz earned racist tweets after performing the National Anthem at the NBA Finals, Anthony faced similar Twitter backlash.
We won't even print them here, because it's beyond absurd, but Anthony (of Puerto Rican descent and born in the U.S.) addressed the hatred yesterday:
"You know, something happened that I really wanted to mention, and I wanted to clarify," he said on Live with Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan.
"You know, me singing the national anthem, there were some statements made that people were upset that they would have somebody from another country sing the national anthem."
"But to set the record straight," he said of his performance at Queens' Citi Field, "I was born and raised in New York, you can't get more New York than me."
