Genesis Carmona, a Venezuelan beauty queen and student who took part in her nation's ongoing political protest this week, was shot in the head and killed on Tuesday.
She was 22 years old.
A photograph was snapped by Reuters of Carmona's limp body in the arms of a man on a motorcycle after gunfire broke out in Valencia, with the former Miss Turismo pronounced dead at a hospital yesterday.
"How long are we going to live like this? How long do we have to tolerate this pressure, with them killing us?" a relative, who preferred to remain anonymous, cried to reporters.
"She only needed one more semester to graduate."
Tuesday's demonstration was part of a rally on behalf of imprisoned protest leader Leopoldo Lopez, a Harvard-educated economist who has led three weeks of protests against President Nicolas Maduro's regime.
Carmona's passing marks the fifth death since this strife broke out, with three people shot in Caracas and one run over in the coastal town of Carupano.
In January, Monica Spear (2004 Miss Venezuela) and estranged husband Henry Berry were fatally shot in a robbery that also left their five-year-old daughter wounded.
Carmona, meanwhile, has ben studying tourism at the time of her death.
