Two months after coming out as gay via a speech in Las Vegas, Ellen Page taped an appearance this week on Ellen.
Speaking, of course, to one of Hollywood's first openly homosexual celebrities, the actress said she was "the most nervous [she's] ever been in [her] life" prior to making her remarks.
However, "it was a combination of just such thrill to finally be at that place in my life where I was able to do that," Page said. "And grateful to have that moment and grateful to you because you did it at a time where it was much harder and much scarier."
DeGeneres agreed that anyone, in any circumstance, feels better when they are not "carrying around" something they are "ashamed" of.
She also praised her guest as a symbol of "hope" for those being bullied.
"I knew I would be a happier person," Page said. "I knew that I was gonna feel better and I did not anticipate just how happy I would feel in just every aspect of my life. Just an ease and a comfort and it's really been quite extraordinary to feel just the shift. It was pretty much overnight."
That's so very nice to hear.
