If you haven't heard, Game of Thrones is a pretty popular show on HBO.
But while the series has no problems in the ratings department, the pacing of its plot could cause some issues down the line:
You see, the soon-to-be concluding fourth season of GoT is based on the second half of the novel, A Storm of Swords, which is the third book in George R.R. Martin's best-selling A Song of Ice and Fire series.
Naturally, due to its incredible worldwide popularity, Game of Thrones has already been renewed for seasons 5 and 6, which will air over the course of the next two years, during which time Martin will hopefully publish the sixth book in the ASOIAF set.
The problem is, we already know Martin has yet to start writing the seventh book in the series, and now comes news that will likely give GoT fans a headache to put Oberyn Martell's to shame:
Martin's editor, Anne Groell, answered fan questions online recently and indicated that Martin's planned seven-book series may now stretch to eight volumes.
Given that six years elapsed between the publications of the fourth and fifth books, that means GoT may soon run out of source material, as Martin's series won't end until around the time winter truly comes and the earth is engulfed in a new ice age.
There's been talk of concluding the show after seven seasons, but after all the bloodshed and high-drama, how anticlimactic would it be to watch a finale that you know isn't really the way the story ends? (And how badly would it hurt sales of Martin's remaining books?)
The simple solution here is for George to just get writing, but in the past he hasn't responded well to fan admonitions to hurry the hell up, so don't go bombarding him with Facebook messages.
Instead, just watch Game of Thrones online at TV Fanatic and pray to the old gods and the new, that GRRM finishes the remaining however-many books in time to provide a satisfying conclusion to the show.
Viserys was up there with King Joffrey in terms of douchebags we loved to hate. Even so, his death by molten gold is tough to watch.
