The Duggar family's conservative values and penchant for courting, rather than dating, when it comes to children coming of age and finding mates are well established.

You won't believe some of the specific things they don't allow, however.

1. Dates Without Chaperones

The Duggar parents often accompany their children on dates in order to maintain their "accountability" and "keep things from going in the wrong direction," per Jim Bob. The girls are fine with this, as being alone with men puts them in grave "moral danger." When the parents aren't available, their older siblings will often tag along, making every date a group date and a family affair.

"In today's day and time, it's a little bit strange to be in our early 20s and still have not had sex," the newly engaged Jessa Duggar admitted in a recent interview.

"But," she adds, "it's how our parents did it."

That it is, and it's admirably old-fashioned.

Whether you subscribe to their methodology or not, one has to hand it to the Duggar family for setting moral standards for themselves and sticking to them.

People could learn a lot from their devotion to the core values in their lives. Some of the strict rules they've established to enforce this policy, however?

Strong Christian beliefs are something untold millions of Americans share, but not a lot take them to the levels Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar do.

The Duggar family dating rules are geared toward getting to know one another, and each other's families. The singular purpose is evaluating life partners.

In theory, that sounds virtuous and wonderfully traditional, a product of a bygone era and a beacon of light in a modern world. And in a sense, it is.
