We've reported on plenty of 911 calls over the years, ranging from real celebrity-based emergencies to errant calls that should never, ever have been made.
Well, this interesting and memorable story, which was shared recently during an AskReddit thread that asked 911 operators the one call they remember?
It might take the cake. Or more specifically, the pizza.
The Reddit user, later revealed as former police dispatcher Keith Weisinger, shared the tale of once getting a late-night call while working the 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift.
What he initially thought was a prank call - we've seen many of them - turned out to be a woman who was in great need of assistance but had to speak in code.
What do we mean exactly by that? You'll be surprised.
As written by Weisinger, the call went as follows:
"911, where is you emergency?"
"123 Main St."
"Ok, what's going on there?"
"I'd like to order a pizza for delivery." (oh great, another prank call).
"Ma'am, you've reached 911″
"Yeah, I know. Can I have a large with half pepperoni, half mushroom and peppers?"
"Ummm…. I'm sorry, you know you've called 911 right?"
"Yeah, do you know how long it will be?"
"Ok, Ma'am, is everything ok over there? do you have an emergency?"
"Yes, I do."
"And you can't talk about it because there's someone in the room with you?" (moment of realization)
"Yes, that's correct. Do you know how long it will be?"
"I have an officer about a mile from your location. Are there any weapons in your house?"
"Nope."
"Can you stay on the phone with me?"
"Nope. See you soon, thanks"
According to Weisinger, he checked the address after the call and found that there were multiple domestic disputes reported from the caller's location.
Once police officers arrived at the woman's address, authorities noticed that the female was badly beaten and that the boyfriend involved was drunk.
She explained to the officer that the boyfriend had been doing this for a while, so she had to find a way to report him without him realizing that she was.
Weisinger said he doesn't know what happened with the female since, but adds that he'll never forget her courageous and clever use of 911 in this case.
