Matt Lauer is gonna stay with Today.
The embattled anchor, whose program now loses the weekly ratings battle to Good Morning America, has signed a two-year contract extension with NBC.
The New York Times reported the deal, which comes as a bit of a surprise because Lauer has been under a great deal of fire over the past several months.
Many blame Lauer for the poor execution of Ann Curry's firing, while Lauer's alleged refusal to take a pay cut has angered many show staffers.
"I consider this the best job in broadcasting," Lauer said in a statement. "I love people I work with every day and I have such respect and gratitude for the people I work for. I couldn't be happier to be staying."
After years of dominating its rival, Today now loses out on a frequent basis to Good Morning America when it comes to ratings.
Lauer, meanwhile, began at Today in 1997 and holds the record as the longest-sitting Today anchor.
