American Idol has been on the air for over a month now, but let's face it:
The competition truly kicked off last night.
The Fox competition has whittled its hopefuls down to two dozen, 12 men and 12 women, with the former group taking to the stage Wednesday and singing for their reality show lives.
One-third of the 12 men will be voted off next week, placing extreme pressure on each contestant for his first live audition.
With so many performances packed into a single hour (and thank goodness, too, we wanted to watch Empire Season 1 Episode 8!), we're gonna speed through our assessment the same way Ryan Seacrest sped through this fast-paced installment...'
Adam Ezegelian sounded like he was doing karaoke with his version of "I Wanna Rock."
Michael Simeon ratcheted the cheese factor way high with his take on Michael Bolton's "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You?"
We loved Savion Wright's jazzy version of "Hey, Soul Sister."
Mark Andrew sang The Band's "The Weight" just fine. In rather forgettable fashion, however.
Trevor Douglas was NOT the best we ever had. He had major pitch problems.
Clark Beckham cannot be accused of lacking a soul after belting out "When a Man Loves a Woman."
Rayvon Owen showed the perfect amount of attitude in making like Nick Jonas on "Jealous."
Daniel Seavey is only 15, so perhaps he can be forgiven for his inconsistency on Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours."
More pitch problems for Riley Bria on Eric Church's "Homeboy."
Quentin Alexander totally put a spell on us! Can we just vote him through now?
Qaasim Middleton certainly kept us entertained with "Uptown Funk."
But Nick Fradiani takes the initial live auditions cake with his mature, emotional rendition of "Thinking Out Loud."
Who was YOUR favorite male performer from Wednesday night? Who do you think should get voted out?
