The charges were eventually dropped, and the incident did not result in any punishment from the Cowboys or the NFL.
Now, however, footage of Angela Bryant describing her violent encounter with her son could result in fines, suspensions or worse, just as video of Ray Rice assaulting his wife led to the Baltimore Ravens running back being disciplined by the league.
In the video, Angela Bryant says that the incident began when she attempted to break up a fight between Dez and his uncle.
Dez proceeded to destroy property throughout his mother's home. Angela says he then grabbed her shirt, pulled her hair and struck her repeatedly with a baseball cap.
When she fled to another location, he allegedly followed her and attacked her again.
Angela tells police that at one point, Dez "started talking about how he's going to [her] out."
She also says she planned to contact Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in order to help Dez cope with his anger issues. It is not known if she ever did so.
In 2013, Bryant spoke at a Men Against Abuse Rally in Dallas and famously stated that he's "done with domestic abuse."
The NFL and the Dallas Cowboys have yet to comment on the video and what impact it may have on Bryant's career.
