Fifty Shades of Grey has now spanked its competition at the box office two weeks in a row, and with two more books' worth of sexy, sexy source material, a very lucrative trilogy is all but guaranteed. Or is it?
With author E.L. James demanding more control (cue whip sound effect) and director Sam Taylor-Johnson bowing out of the sequel, Fifty Shades of Darker may wind up being more different in tone (and taking much longer to produce) than the honchos at Universal would like.
Now, there's even worse news for the controversial S&M franchise, as Christian Grey himself, Jamie Dornan, is reportedly desperate to get out of the contract that would require him to reprise his lead role in two more films.
Reportedly, the problem is that Dornan is a newlywed family man, and he's worried that his life as a suburban dad puts him in conflict with the perviness of his onscreen alter-ego.
We've already heard that Dornan's wife refuses to watch Fifty Shades, but apparently, even without seeing him in action, the experience of watching her husband become an overnight kinky sex god was too much for Amelia Warner to take.
"Jamie said the movie would skyrocket his career," says one insider. "He tried to assure Amelia that nothing would change at all, but now women all over the world lust after Jamie. She hasn't seen the movie, and I don't think she will see it."
In addition to the steamy subject matter, it seems the fact that Dornan and Dakota Johnson hate each other (allegedly) is also a factor in his Jamie's decision to try and jump ship:
"Jamie does not think his performance was bad," says the source. "He blames Dakota and says it wasn't possible to have chemistry with her. He claims Dakota gave him nothing to work with.
Unfortunately for Dornan, he's under contract for two more films, and he's likely to find that the experience of going toe-to-toe with a major studio makes Christian Grey's Red Room of Pain look like the teacup ride at Disney World...but with more leather.
