Investigators probing the Boston Marathon bombings are circulating photos of two men spotted near the finish line in an attempt to ID the possible suspects.
One of the men was carrying a blue duffel bag. The other was wearing a black backpack in a photo taken at 10:53 a.m. In a second photo at 12:30 p.m., he was not.
At this time, there is no official named Boston Marathon bombing suspect, nor has there been an arrest, as erroneously reported Wednesday afternoon.
However, authorities are clearly in hot pursuit.
An inter-agency manhunt led by the FBI, Boston PD and Massachusetts State Police - and maybe even aided by Reddit and 4Chan - produced the photos.
"The attached photos are being circulated in an attempt to identify the individuals highlighted therein," said an e-mail obtained by The New York Post.
"Feel free to pass this around to any of your fellow agents elsewhere."
Authorities know the names of the two men, but do not have enough evidence to make an arrest for Monday's attack, which killed three and wounded 176.
It was not immediately clear if the men in the law-enforcement photos are the same men in the surveillance videos seen circulating on the Internet.
The developments in the case came as:
- Leaked photos show that 6-liter pressure cookers were stuffed with metal projectiles and powered by a $3 battery typically used in toys.
- The lid of one pressure-cooker bomb was blown off with such force that it landed on the roof of the Charlesmark Hotel over 100 feet away.
- Investigators continue to sift through all clues and evidence, including items from the home of Carlos Arredondo, the activist-turned-hero.
- Officials call on citizens to turn in any cellphone video or photos taken at the bomb sites, where thousands of people were close by Monday.
