Dove Real Beauty Sketches Ad: How Do Women See Themselves? Apr 17th 2013, 12:11 Do women see themselves less accurately than total strangers do? Dove's new "Real Beauty" ad campaign says yes, and proves it. The brand recruited seven women of different ages/backgrounds and had FBI-trained forensic artist Gil Zamora draw composite sketches of them. Zamora did this based on their descriptions of their own features. Then strangers were told to describe the same women, and he sketched again. Check it out how much the results differed: Dove Real Beauty Sketches Ad The women frequently used phrases like "my mom told me I had a big jaw," "I kind of have a fat, rounder face," "I'd say I have a pretty big forehead." Even when this was not necessarily the case. "We really weren't sure what was going on," Kela Cabrales, a 40-year-old teacher and digital artist who appears in the video, told the Huffington Post. Earlier in the day, the women were asked to spend time with strangers - though neither party was told why - and Zimora sketched both descriptions. The two resulting drawings of each woman were then hung side-by-side, and the contrast is pretty stark. Which was the point of the Dove campaign. Tagline: "You are more beautiful than you think."
