Ariana Grande covers the new issue of Billboard magazine, and she says she's living a double life. Because she's totally dark, deranged and sardonic!
"There was a stage, when I was 3 or 4, where my mom thought I might grow up to be a serial killer," she tells the magazine in a wide-ranging interview.
"For my fifth birthday party we had a Jaws theme and all my friends left crying. I mean, I still am that way. But when I was little it was more concerning."
Calling herself "dark and deranged," she "always wanted to have face paint on or be wearing a Freddy Krueger mask ... I would carry a hockey stick around."
"I was like a mini-Helena Bonham Carter." Also a hypoglycemic one, which added to it: "When I was little, I would turn into the Tasmanian devil."
Not the first picture of her you have right now, is it?
With her 2013 album Yours Truly a bona fide hit, and new singles "Problem," "Break Free" and "Bang Bang" burning up the charts, she's on top of the world.
Grande, a 21-year-old hailing from Florida and who may or may not be dating Big Sean, hasn't followed the traditional path there, that's for sure.
En route to pop stardom, young Ariana began on Broadway and eventually landing a role as Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon hit Victorious.
"It was a blessing and one of my childhood dreams come true," Grande says, and after Victorious wrapped, she landed her own spinoff, Sam & Cat.
"For a long time I was attached to a character that was nothing like myself," she says, noting that despite the dream coming true, "It was a little frustrating."
That dissatisfaction was short-lived. Nickelodeon canceled Sam & Cat in July after one season amid rumors of tumult with co-star Jennette McCurdy.
