The widow of Robin Williams dropped surprising news on mourning friends and fans yesterday.
According to Susan Schneider, the actor was in the early stages of Parkinson's Disease when he took his own life on Monday morning.
Schneider did not directly correlate the diagnosis with Williams' suicide, but she did shoot down rumors that the Oscar winner had fallen off the sober wagon prior to his death.
Michael J. Fox - who was diagnosed with Parkinson's in the early 1990s and has dedicated time, money and resources to The Michael J. Fox Foundation - Tweeted last night that he was "stunned" to hear the news.
Earlier in the week, Fox remembered his pal as "famously kind, ferociously funny, a genius and a gentle soul" and added yesterday:
"A true friend; I wish him peace."
In 2004, Fox and Williams both took park in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinson's" benefit, though it likely predated Robin's diagnosis.
News of Williams' passing continues to reverberate around the country, with stars across all industries sending out their best wishes, thoughts and prayers.
