Richard Kiel, a veteran actor best known for his villainous turn as an assassin in a pair of James Bond movies, died yesterday afternoon at St. Agnes Medical Center in Fresno, California.

He was 74 years old.

Kiel stood 7'2" and got his start in the early 1960s on shows such as Laramie, Thriller and The Rifleman.

He portrayed an alien on an episode of The Twilight Zone and eventually a fan of Adam Sandler's character in Happy Gilmore.

But the Detroit native will likely most be remembered for playing Jaws in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Moonraker (1979), two James Bond films that featured Roger Moore as the iconic hero.

The evil character had metal teeth that could bite through anything and he pursed 007 all over the globe.

In 2007, Kiel starred with Verne Troyer in the Swedish reality series Welcome To Sweden and in 2010 he voiced the villainous Vlad in the 2010 Disney cartoon Tangled.

We send our condolences to his loved ones.
