Last week, Amanda Bynes accused her father of sexual assault in a series of shockingly graphic tweets.
She later retracted the statements, but blamed her mental instability on a "microchip" in her brain, which she claimed her father had implanted.
Amanda is clearly suffering from sort of psychological ailment - for which she's currently receiving treatment - but that doesn't mean that the target of her rant was chosen arbitrarily.
Friends of Amanda's have stated in the past that the former child star had a strained relationship with her parents and that things came to a head when during Bynes' conservatorship last year.
Under the terms of the conservatorship, Bynes was forced to live with her parents for one year, an experience she now says she "hated."
Chelsea Brummet, a co-star of Amanda's on the Nickelodeon sketch comedy series All That says there's nothing new about Amanda's turbulent relationship with her mother and father.
Brummet claims that Amanda frequently clashed with her parents - her father in particular - in front of other castmates and crew members.
"She was always defiant with her dad," says Brummet. "She would try to hide things from her dad...Seemed like they were never on the same page. Amanda got to the point where she was like 'I call the shots.'"
Brummet adds that Bynes would go to great lengths to hide aspects of her personal life - such as her penchant for dating older co-stars - from her father.
These days, Brummet says she barely recognizes the Amanda she sees on TV and in the tabloids:
"She doesn't seem like the same person. It seemed like from the beginning she was trained to be a star and then it went away. It's so sad."
