Following the passing of the team's owner Ralph Wilson, Donald Trump expressed an interest in purchasing the NFL's Buffalo Bills.
Like most things the Donald is involved with, the potential deal is a case of Trump's ego gone wild, a fact that's not lost on fellow billionaire and Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban.
When asked by TMZ about Trump's interest in the Bills Cuban pointed out that Trump isn't wealthy enough to purchase the team of his own and would need to assemble a group of investors in order to close the deal. There are few things Trump hates more than the truth, so naturally, this undeniable fact threw him into a fit of rage.
"Mark Cuban is a lightweight who's net worth is a fraction of mine," Celebrity Apprentice host fired back. "By the way, I watched him play golf and he is a total non-athlete - zero clubhead speed. He lives vicariously through his basketball players."
I would imagine for billionaires insulting someone's golf game is like making a joke about their mother, so Trump is treading on dangerous ground here.
The beleaguered Bills haven't made the playoffs since 1999 (the longest current drought in football) but like any NFL team they remain a profitable and sought-after franchise.
Plus, as the ultimate status symbol, becoming an NFL owner is naturally an attractive prospect to a known megalomaniac like Trump, even if he's aware such a purchase is likely well beyond his financial means.
If he does manage to buy the team, Trump will likely have to start spending a lot more time in Upstate New York. Before he died, Wilson signed a lease agreement stipulating that anyone who moves the team to a different city before 2021 will need to pay a $400 million fine.
